China’s Billet weakens

Platts assessed China import 3SP 150 mm billet at $478/mt CFR China, down $15/mt on the day, while Southeast Asia 5SP 130 mm spot billet was assessed at $525/mt CFR Manila Aug. 30, down $5/mt on the day.

A Russia-based trader noted that Chinese buyers were bidding for Russian billets at $430/mt FOB Russia, while a Chinese trader reported indicative bids at $460/mt CFR China.

“The downstream demand for billet in Tangshan is good,” said a northern China trader, adding that a deal was concluded at Yuan 3,730/mt ex-stock Tangshan.

Therefore, the Platts assessment for Tangshan Q235 billet did not fall sharply, but instead stood at Yuan 3,730/mt, down Yuan 30/mt on the day, S&P Global Commodity Insights data showed.
