Asia stainless CRC prices fall on weak raw materials, thin demand.

Asian stainless cold-rolled coil prices fell in the week to May 26 on a slump in related steel coil prices and a thin demand.

Platts assessed the 304 grade 2 mm 2B stainless CRC down $55/mt on the week at $2,345/mt CFR East and Southeast Asian ports May 26.

However, an east China trader pointed out that tax-evading cargo offered more competitively than offers from the mills, which weighs on the price, especially as the downstream demand was thin.

Chinese 304 grade stainless CRC was heard tradable at $2,250/mt FOB China.

Although the market saw some buying interest of ferrochrome, the mills didn’t see much improvement for stainless steel.

The official nickel cash price on the London Metal Exchange fell $330/mt from May 20 to $21,125/mt on May 26.
