China Baowu Group announced that it has partnered with Rio Tinto on decarbonisation. China Baowu and Rio Tinto plan to jointly initiate a series of decarbonisation projects to demonstrate their commitment towards leading the industry’s low-carbon transformation.

          The projects include researching, building and demonstrating a pilot-scale electric melter at one of Baowu’s steel operations in China.

          This will enable the production of low-carbon steel using direct reduced iron (DRI) from lower-grade ores rather than pellets.
