China ships 217,500 mt/year of HRC to Turkey in Aug despite anti-dumping probe: TUIK

China continued to dominate the Turkish hot-rolled coil import market with its low-priced offers in August, with inflows from that country reaching 217,500 metric tons, some 100,000 mt higher year on year, according to the monthly Turkish Statistical Institute, or TUIK, data.

HRC imports from China in August were also 10,000 mt higher month on month.

The rise occurred despite the determined dumping margins on imports of HRC from China, India, Japan, and Russia, which ranged between 11.65% and 57.75%, as declared by the Turkish Trade Ministry’s report on Aug. 7.

After receiving opinions from the relevant parties, the final anti-dumping report will be submitted to the Board of Evaluation of Unfair Competition for a final decision. The final anti-dumping margins are expected to be announced this year.

According to the TUIK data, South Korea was Turkey’s other top HRC supplier in August at 50,750 mt, down 20% on the year.

The sharpest decline was seen in imports from Russia, which is traditionally one of Turkey’s top HRC suppliers. Turkey imported only 13,300 mt of HRC from that country in August 2024, compared with 51,400 mt a year ago.

Turkey’s other HRC suppliers in August 2024 were France at 9,500 mt and Egypt at 8,800 mt, the data showed.

Turkey’s overall HRC imports totaled 314,400 mt in August, down 25% on year, TUIK data showed.

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, last assessed Turkish domestic HRC at $575/mt EXW Sept. 27, down 19% since the start of 2024.
