Shougang Qiangang is currently constructing a 160-ton electric arc furnace (EAF) as a core technological transformation project for green and low-carbon transition.
The project involves replacing an existing 210-ton converter with a 130-ton (160t design capacity) EAF through capacity replacement.
According to investor relations records from Shougang, the EAF production line at the Qiangang plant is under construction and expected to commence production in 2026.
It is positioned as a near-zero carbon emission steelmaking project, anticipated to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 1.43 million tons annually.
As of early February 2026, no emission data related to this new EAF is publicly available, indicating formal production has not yet begun.
