From “zero breakthrough” to industry benchmark — Shougang Changgang advances direct rolling process

In September 2025, Shougang Changgang’s rolling mill achieved multiple milestones in its direct rolling production: the direct rolling ratio of Q235 round bars increased by 16.84 percentage points month-on-month, Q355B round bars rose by 1.65 percentage points, and direct rolling output exceeded 85,000 tons for four consecutive months—a record high. Compared with the same period last year, monthly average direct rolling output increased by 13,000 tons and the direct rolling rate rose by 6.03 percentage points.

This marks a major success in the company’s nine-year journey of innovation, fully realizing its “one caster, two lines” model—a pioneering step in China’s green, low-carbon steel transformation. The direct rolling process eliminates reheating between casting and rolling, reducing gas consumption by 45 cubic meters per ton of steel and CO₂ emissions by 0.1 ton, saving over 30 million yuan annually.
