On March 11, Huang Runqiu, Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment inspected the steel enterprises’ implementation of emergency emission reduction measures in Tangshan.    

          Tangshan City is an important industrial town in Hebei Province, with concentrated steel production capacity and great pressure on air pollution control. On the morning of the 11th, Huang Runqiu and other staff went to HBIS Tangsteel Stainless Steel Company, Tangshan Jinma Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd., Tangshan Chunxing Special Steel Co., Ltd. and Tangshan Donghua Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd without notification, investigating steel enterprises' production records, and enquiring the implementation of emergency emission reduction measures in heavily polluted weather.

          It turns out four inspected steel enterprises produced at full capacity, violated the requirements of emission reduction and fabricated production records even though Tangshan City started Level II Emergency Response to Heavy Pollution Weather.

          Huang Runqiu emphasized that for environmental protection law violations, especially fraudulent acts, we must resolutely investigate and deal with it with a zero-tolerance attitude. Those involved personnel in four steel enterprises have been reported to the police.
